Light Illuminates the Darkness   1 John 1:5-2:2

I. God’s purity: God is light (1:5)

II. Our problem (1:6, 8, 10)
  a.  Misconception #1: We can be right with God and still persist in unrepentant sin.
  b.  Misconception #2: We may make mistakes, but we are not rebellious sinners.
  c.  Misconception #3: We can overcome sin on our own.

III. God’s provision (1:7, 8; 2:1-2)
  a.  Christ represents our cause before a righteous God
  b.  Christ is righteous
  c.  Christ paid the penalty for our sin

IV. Our participation
  a.  Face sin honestly—If we confess our sins (1 John 1:9)
  b.  Receive forgiveness fully—As many as received him (John 1:12)
  c.  Forsake sin carefully –Keep his commandments (1 John 2:3)
