Living Truth in a Lying World

Discipleship

Living Truth in a Lying World   Titus 1:1-16

Introduction

We live in a culture of confusion—
    “Empty talkers and deceivers . . .
    “Cretans are always liars . . .”

I. Defining the nature of truth
    “. . . knowledge of the truth . . . this testimony is true . . .”

   a. A true statement is one that corresponds to reality, the way things actually are.
   b. Truth is an objective reality. My subjective interpretation of that reality does not change reality.

II. Recognizing the source of truth
    “ . . . God who never lies, promised before the ages began . . .”

III. Laying the foundation of truth
    “. . . encourage others by sound doctrine . . .”

IV. Confronting deception and falsehood
    “ . . . refute those who oppose it.”

V. Living out the truth
“. . . knowledge of the truth, which accords with righteousness.”
“. . .they claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him.”
