The Greatest Sacrifice—Your Son, Your Only Son Genesis 22:1-19 1. A life of faith encounters tests. . . (Genesis 22:1-5; James 1:1-2). a. These tests strengthen our walk with God and demonstrate God’s glory to others b. These tests require obedience to God’s will no matter what the cost (22:3-11). c. These tests call for the sacrifice of what is most precious to us . . . (22:3-12) i. Your son, your only son. 2. A life of faith experiences God’s provision in our time of greatest need (22:6-14) a. A life of faith trusts God’s provision i. Of a substitute ii. The ram is a substitute iii. A picture of God’s sacrifice of His one and only Son for our salvation. b. A life of faith believes that God . . . i. would raise Isaac from the dead (Genesis 22:5; Hebrews 11:17-19). ii. did raise His Son from the dead God (Romans 10:9-10). c. Trusts in God’s promises to protect and to provide (15:6). 3. A life of faith enriches our own lives and those around us . . . (22:15-19) a. Enriching our lives b. Blessing to others
